It would have been really cool to meet you. But that is how it goes. We made friends here, mostly with the recreate68 crew so I imagine we will be in town again with a real show at a real club.

And I bumped my train ticket from Chicago to Little rock back until thursday so now I have an extra day in Chicago.
Oh well. At least now I'll have time to get to my storage locker and bring back a suitcase or two out of it.

We invite the masses and media to join us. At Michigan and Balbo, the symbolic heart of the '68 protests, reenactors from all walks of life will share ideas and memories, music and food. We will be presenting a living history lesson for the city of Chicago which asks, "Where were we then?," and, "Where are we now?"
We will give voice to both the living and the dead, to the celebrated and the forgotten, including MC5, Allen Ginsberg, Phil Ochs, Tom Hayden, William Burroughs, Jean Genet, Abbie Hoffman, Bobby Seale, and Peter, Paul and Mary.
The event will feature historical and contemporary speeches, live music, a marching band, theater, snake-dance training, transcendental meditation, face painting, the nomination of an animal for president, and fun for the whole family.
This reenactment is an effort to understand the difficult legacy of the '68 convention protests. By better understanding our city's past, we can better chart its future. Reenact '68 is an independent group of historians, artists, and political theorists. The group was formed to organize the 2008 historical reenactment of the 1968 Democratic National Convention protests, in commemoration of their 40th Anniversary. Short version of what I saw and what I gathered. I'll expand more when I am awake.
I went to go pee before our show. As I was heading to the porta potties I saw hundreds of people running across the park. The protesters were trying to march to the convention center but were stopped by lines of police. Macings and beatings ensued. So the mass tried to run a different route to the the convention. Thats when I got curious and joined in. Cops descended on us, divided us into three groups of about 2 hundred each. It was all peaceful for the most part. A couple guys got beat and maced for trying to break through the line. But most of those maced were just dancing. They started arresting some one by one. An 80 year old man was arrested. He was just walking home from the library. Luckily he had his receipt proving he just checked out 2 books and they let him go. It was all pretty fucked up and unnecessary. After over an hour they let us go peacefully. I finally got to go to the bathroom but by then it was too late to play. The girl in the video that said 'obama is not my president', thats Isis. One of the recreate68 organizers. She's super rad. We went out for drinks after.
So we went to Denver to not play. But no regrets. Good trip.

But yeah, thats what happened. The worst part is that I went there to document all this and my digi recorder battery died right when all this went down. And my phone battery was almost dead so I couldnt take any pictures.
Mostly I just stood there smoking cigarettes going through the logistics in my head of what will happen if I get arrested.
So, where are you now Eric? I had Trevor look for you last night in case you went to Angel's show. Of course, he is still asleep so I have no word on what happened.
Great. My ride to the train station flaked out on me. Last time I took the el by myself I got in trouble. And its raining. Fuck it i'm leaving now to make sure I get there.
