My religious friend told me that God causes my coworker to do annoying and creepy shit every day as punishment for being an evolutionist.

It's possible.

according to the majority of christians i have encountered, God does not punish those who disbelieve, because He wants them to have freedom of choice in their beliefs, He wants people to voluntarily find Him.

That really makes God seem like a douche. He's so desperate for an ego stroke that he'd set up a world full of shit and trials, just so he can make people prove to him that they love and choose him?

Jesse Custer was right.

yes, i remember in an argument between myself and a christian, i asked "If the world is only 4,800 years old (according to the bible), then why are there fossils disproving this theory?", to which she replied, "Fossils have been placed on earth by God to test our faith".

pretty sick really.

Dude, whatever they want to believe. Really, the argument for when time began on Earth does not affect us. You are not going to change a religious person's view on god. They have to find that for themselves. Why argue with them, unless of course, you have doubt in your own beliefs.
